Beds & Platform Beds
Due to the space limitations of most bedrooms
in San Francisco, platform beds continue in popularity. The main differences
between platform beds and traditional beds are that platform beds do not
take box springs--rather, a mattress is placed directly on a row of slats,
usually fourteen per queen-- and platform beds have a lower profile. Most
agree that platform beds tend to make small rooms look more spacious, while traditional
beds often look more grand and luxurious.
As we looked around for traditional beds
that take box springs, we were able to put together a selection of beds
with clean, simple lines that blend traditional design elements into an overall
contemporary look. Whether it's our Baxter Collection reminiscent of Frank
Lloyd Wright, the Cosmopolitan Collection reminiscent of the Art Deco movement,
or our beautiful Clift Upholstered bed, we believe that these beds offer
you beautiful choices to help you design a bedroom that is just right for
you.
We are often asked if a mattress feels different
on a platform bed rather than on a traditional box spring. In most cases, they
feel identical, but if the slats bow due to insufficient support, the mattress
may feel a bit softer. That's why we make sure that all of our platform beds,
as well as traditional beds, have proper center support legs. If you would
like the platform bed look but would like to have a bed that takes a boxspring,
you might consider our Baxter bed made with Cherry and Mohagany solids.
